To speed up preparations, we are preparing VRT Moravská brána (HSL Moravian Gate) in two parts simultaneously: Moravská brána I (Brodek u Přerova – Prosenice – Hranice na Moravě) and Moravská brána II (Hranice na Moravě – Ostrava-Svinov).The construction and operation of the section is planned as a cooperation between the public and private sector in the form of PPP (Public-Private Partnership) as approved by the Government of the Czech Republic in September 2024 on the basis of the Feasibility study of the RS Morava PPP. The Feasibility study can be found here.
VRT Moravská brána I
Shorter Time to Ostrava and Slovakia
In the station Hranice na Moravě we will connect VRT/HSL with the existing railway line between Přerov and Ostrava. That means High-Speed Trains will be able to service not only Hranice itself, but also Valašské Meziříčí and Vsetín, and continue on to Slovakia. The branch line to the station Hranice na Moravě will lead over one of the Hranice viaducts.
Hranice na Moravě station will undergo extensive reconstruction. A traction substation will be built in Prosenice to ensure a reliable supply of electricity for the operation of trains on the line.
Exit Olomouc
The 12-kilometre section of the High-Speed Line between Brodek u Přerova and Prosenice represents a new railway connection between Olomouc and Ostrava with the main goal of connecting Olomouc to the High-Speed network. This new track will be used exclusively for passenger transport and will significantly improve the quality of transport connections in the area. In addition to the positive impacts on passenger transport, conditions are also expected to improve for freight transport, which will use the newly created capacity of the current line.
The line will connect to the already designed VRT Moravská brána I between Prosenice and Hranice in the Přerov region and to Moravská brána II. The connection from Ostrava to Olomouc is designed in the context of the entire section of VRT Moravská brána. The extension from Prosenice to Brodek u Přerova is based on the approved feasibility study from 2021, which deals with the connection from Brno to Ostrava. The construction of this connection with the planned VRT/HSL route will bring a number of benefits to Olomouc in the form of shorter intercity travel times as well as residential development. The project also includes a solution for connecting the HSL to the Brodek u Přerova and Prosenice stations. These will undergo the necessary modifications.
VRT Moravská brána II
A Reliable Railway for the 21st century
The connection to the Ostrava-Svinov railway station is designed to be collision free. The VRT/HSL tracks will run inside the main tracks of the corridor. On the route in the direction to the Ostrava-Vítkovice station, an exit will be created at Výškovice to enable the smooth connection of the VRT/HSL to existing infrastructure. It will be used by long-distance and regional trains heading to the southern part of Ostrava, Havířov, Frýdek-Místek or Český Těšín. The technical design of the line is being designed ecologically, with an emphasis on protecting the Poodří protected landscape area, which the line will pass through.
