The purpose is to secure additional long-term capacity. The new High-Speed Line will create more room for the growing number of trains in the vicinity of Brno on the line that is being modernised today and ensure further reduction of travel times for express services on the backbone line Praha – Ostrava. It will significantly reduce travel times on the Brno – Olomouc line to about 30 minutes.
VRT Will Include Several Connections to the Conventional Railway Network:
- In the direction of Olomouc from the south and north, for permanent operation of long-distance connections serving the city as well as trains using the existing VRT/ High-Speed Rail corridor between Prague and Olomouc
- In the direction of Nezamyslice, for emergency use in case of unforeseen events and for line maintenance
